Real Name: Erik Skodvin, Otto Totland

Deaf Center are two Norwegian friends Erik Skodvin and Otto Totland. Old school friends, they finally decided to write music together and ended up creating the phenomenal 'Neon City' EP.

Already getting rave reviews in De:Bug and online electronic magazines they are surely an act destined for greatness. Their control over samples, soundscapes and untouched beauty is unmatched, we can only sit back, listen and enjoy.

В позициях Style и Genre, в принципе, все сказано. Однако творения этого дуэта отличаются от продукции многих сотоварищей по цеху. Я для себя определил это отличие тем, что Deaf Center звучат очень уверенно, в их музыке не чувствуется движения "наощупь", по наитию, импровизации. Кажется, что она создавалась недрогнувшей рукой, с четкой идеей и планом ее реализации в голове (вроде как профессионально).
Апогеем вышепредставленного, на мой взгляд, является Levende - длиннющий 45 минутный трек, обозначивающий в себе элементы "современной классики", дарк эмбиента, полевых записей, нойза, нью эйджа и еще много чего. В Levende меня впечатлил голос Kristin Evensen Giaever, которая, как выяснилось, так же отметилась на записях Greg Haines'а, Gultskra Artikler'а и Svarte Greiner. И где-то я слышал фрагмент, который начинается с 39 мин 41с. кто сообразит, напомните где оно еще звучало :)

Nest is the collaborative project of Otto Totland (Deaf Center / Type Records) and Huw Roberts (Serein). The two started working together after forging a strong friendship as former members of the Miasmah label. This self-titled EP is their first work publicly released, so it is a great honour that we are able to offer it to you here.

Both pianists, there is little wonder that after exploring a plethora of musical styles, the two find themselves most at home writing traditionally structured pieces, with the ivories a major element throughout. The EP demonstrates clearly the innate ability the two have for song writing, borrowing from the world of film soundtracks and contemporary classical composers to craft delicate instrumental compositions.

Alongside their favoured instrument can be variously heard the plucked strings of the Welsh harp, violins, woodwind instruments, field recordings, percussion and a heady dose of mind wobbling effects. From the time Nest began writing together, one purpose was clear; to produce beautiful music free of pretense, and they do it exceptionally well.

Levende классный альбом, но, по моим ощущениям, Pale Ravine им не превзойден: и планка высоченная, и выглядит Levende как этакое "более скандинавское" продолжение Pale Ravine, правда, еще более сдержанное в мелодизме, скорее, растворяющееся в шуме волн и завываниях ветра.

Со временем у меня возникло подозрение что это некое подобие микса или сборника...
